Strength of schedule:

Michigan is (4-0) with wins over Florida, Air Force, Cincinnati, and Purdue.  Michigan State is (3-1) with wins over Bowling Green, Western Michigan, and Iowa.  Their lone defeat came at home against Notre Dame.

Summary:

Michigan remains undefeated after their 28-10 road victory over Purdue.  Michigan outgained Purdue 423-189 in total yardage.  The Wolverines lost their starting quarterback Wilton Speight early in the game.  John O’Korn stepped in for Speight and finished 18-26 for 270 yards with a touchdown and an interception.  The Michigan running game combined for 139 yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries.  Michigan ranks 73rd in total yardage (407.0) and 58th in points per game (31.5).  The Wolverines rank 8th in scoring defense (13.5).

Michigan State is coming off a tough 17-10 home victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Michigan State outgained Iowa 300-231 in total yardage.  Brian Lewerke was 18-28 for 211 yards and two touchdowns.  Lewerke also rushed 12 times for 42 yards.  Michigan State had trouble running the ball garnering only 88 yards on 40 carries.  Felton Davis had a huge game with 9 receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns.  The Spartans defense was excellent holding Iowa to ten points and forcing two turnovers.  Michigan State ranks 52nd in total offense (430.0 YPG) and 96th in points per game (24.5).  The Spartans rank 21st in scoring defense (18.0 PPG).

Bottom Line:

The Wolverines defense has been awesome this season allowing the least amount of rushing yards and the 8th fewest points.  Michigan State struggled to run against Iowa so they’ll have to air it out against Michigan.  Speight’s injury doesn’t change much as he and O’Korn are interchangeable.  This should be a close game but I’m taking the Wolverines at home.
