On Thursday, September 7th, the (0-0) New York Jets will be on the road to take on the (0-0) New York Giants.
“The Crowd” projects a final score of Giants 24.6 – Jets 18.3 with an over/under of 42.9.
2016-17 Statistics (32 total teams):
Yards per game: Giants 330.7 (25th) > Jets 329.2 (26th)
Points per game: Giants 19.4 (26th) > Jets 17.2 (30th)
Turnover margin: Giants -2 > Jets -20
Fewest yards allowed per game: Giants 339.7 (10th) > Jets 342.2 (11th)
Fewest Points allowed per game: Giants 17.8 (2nd) > Jets 25.6 (28th)
The Giants were a playoff team last year going (11-5) while the Jets (5-11) finished in last place. The Giants (+26) ranked 12th in point differential whereas the Jets (-134) were 28th. The Jets (-20) had the worst turnover margin in the entire league a season ago. The Jets quarterback situation is a mess with Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, and Christian Hackenburg vying for the gig. With few offensive playmakers and instability at the quarterback position, they will surely struggle to score points. The Jets defense struggled to keep the opposition out of the end zone. Rookie safety Jamal Adams will be a major difference maker but the unit still has a long way to go as a whole.
The Giants were carried by their defense last season ranking as a top ten unit all year. In the offseason, the G-Men loaded up on offense with receiver Brandon Marshall teaming up with superstar Odell Beckham. Rookie tight end Evan Engram has wide receiver speed and should be able to open up the middle of the field. Eli Manning has to do a better job of taking care of the football after ranking 4th in the league in interceptions with 16. The Giants were (7-1) at home last season while the Jets were ((3-5) on the road. The Giants are better on both sides of the ball and should win this one easily.
