Philadelphia is coming off their first-round bye and should be well rested for their game against Atlanta. The Eagles (+162) led the league in point differential. Atlanta advances to the second round of the playoffs after their 26-13 road upset of the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams actually outgained the Falcons 361-322 in total yardage but Atlanta won the possession battle by fifteen minutes! Matt Ryan was 21-30 for 218 yards and a touchdown. The Falcons struggled to run the ball combining for 124 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries (3.2 average). Julio Jones was a difference maker with 9 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown. Atlanta’s defense played well but the Rams have to be kicking themselves for only giving Todd Gurley II 14 carries. Special teams errors and two turnovers certainly proved costly for the Rams and was ultimately the difference in deciding this one. The Falcons (+38) rank 11th in the NFL in point differential.
The Eagles will be without their star quarterback Carson Wentz who is out with an ACL injury. Nick Foles did an admirable job stepping in for Wentz in the regular season but was very inconsistent. The Falcons underperformed for the majority of the year and appear to be peaking at the right time. Atlanta has the better quarterback in Matt Ryan and should win this one on the road if he takes care of the football.
