On Sunday, September 10th, the (0-0) New England Patriots will be on the road to take on the (0-0) New York Jets.

The Crowd:

“The Crowd” projects a final score of Patriots 28.6 – Jets 17.3 with an over/under of 45.9.

2016-17 Statistics (32 total teams):

Yards per game: Patriots 386.2 (4th) > Jets 329.2 (26th)

Points per game: Patriots 27.6 (3rd) > Jets 17.2 (30th)

Turnover margin: Patriots +12 > Jets -20

Fewest yards allowed per game: Patriots 326.4 (8th) > Jets 342.2 (11th)

Fewest Points allowed per game: Patriots 15.6 (1st) > Jets 25.6 (28th)

The Patriots return after winning yet another Super Bowl after going (14-2) in the regular season.  The Jets (5-11) really struggled last season finishing at the bottom of the AFC East.  The Patriots (+191) led the league in point differential whereas the Jets (-134) ranked 28th.  The Jets (-20) had the worst turnover margin in the entire league a season ago whereas the Patriots (+12) were second.  The Jets quarterback situation is a mess with Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, and Christian Hackenburg vying for the gig.  With few offensive playmakers and instability at the quarterback position, they will surely struggle to score points.  The Jets defense struggled to keep the opposition out of the end zone.  Rookie safety Jamal Adams will be a major difference maker but the unit still has a long way to go as a whole.

Believe it or not the Patriots enter this season with an even better roster on paper this year than the team that took home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.  Tom Brady returns for his age 39 season and is still playing at an MVP level.  Rob Gronkowski will be back from injury and the Patriots added dynamic receiver Brandin Cooks to their plethora of offensive weapons.  For all the attention the Patriots offense gets, people forget that their defense led the league in fewest points allowed (15.6).  Last season the Jets were just (2-6) at home while New England was a perfect (8-0) on the road.  The Patriots are clearly the superior team and should win this one in blowout fashion.
